Lwendo, great question! Notice, the Bible never promotes polygamy. By these accounts, God is showing why polygamy is a terrible idea. We should be convinced by reading the Bible just up to this point. When we get to the Law in Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, God regulates it, but never promotes it. As we have read, polygamy is man's idea, not God's. Genesis 1 and 2 promotes the one flesh idea. Jesus puts the nail in polygamy's coffin in Matthew 19.
The only thing polygamy did was to help populate the earth quicker. I see no other benefit, but plenty of downside - which we have already read about.
We should read the Bible for its prescriptions (commands, precepts, etc.), but sometimes its descriptives give us what godly men and women Do and STAY AWAY from. Go beyond "What must I do" to "What is the wise thing to do"
Is there anywhere, more curious about the old testament, that the bible specifically speaks against polygamy?
